Description
These distress signals are widely used in water sports and shipping. Initially, this type of signal was popularly called a ‘ship’s signal’. This was because of the SOLAS Maritime seal of approval. The only difference between this type of hand hoist signal and the standard SOLAS hand hoist signals is the fact that it is more compact due to a ‘slide-out’ construction. This has the advantage that it is easier to carry (in terms of space) and an additional advantage: the handle is sturdier and many times larger than the standard SOLAS hand hoist signal. The signal burns slightly brighter than the standard hand hoist signal. With a luminosity of 15,000 candela, you are clearly visible from thousands of metres away! At the same time, this type of signal also emits a huge amount of white smoke. This smoke provides even more visibility. The SOLAS signal burns for 60 seconds.
Solas 74/96 – CE approved Emergency Signal
SOLAS signals are developed and approved according to the rules of Maritime Authority Solas 74/96. Of course, they are also CE approved. You can use this distress signal firstly on vessels. Secondly, they are of course also suitable for purposes on land. The SOLAS seal of approval guarantees that this type of signal is waterproof.
That is, the signal can even be used underwater! This distress signal is also made of a tube filled with a pyrotechnic sas. This sas contains metal powders. These powders provide a burning time of 60 seconds. This creates a luminosity of 15,000 candela in various colours. These colours ensure that you are always recognisable in any situation! This variant of the emergency signal is available in the following colours:
To illustrate: The standard color for emergency situations is red. To avoid collisions at sea, white signals are used.
