The signal has a high brightness of 13,000 candela produce a bright glow and lots of white smoke. Combined with the smoke plume, it is clearly visible at thousands of meters away at day and night. The burn time is +/- 57 seconds.

The red color is the international symbol for “help I’m in an emergency,” the white color people use for “beware of danger. Other colors can also be used for signaling.
